The forest was silent, save for the crunch of snow beneath their boots and the synchronized rhythm of their breathing.

When Liang had pressed his newly drawn tag against Wei’s, re-establishing the Consent Gate by choice rather than necessity, the architecture of their Meridian-link had fundamentally evolved. It was no longer a desperate tug-of-war for survival, nor a delicate, terrifying surrender to purge poison. It had become a weapon of infinite potential.

They moved through the dense pines toward the eastern slope of the Qingyun Sect, their physical bodies separated by a few feet, yet entirely bound by the invisible, humming circuit of the resonance. The Taiyin gate at their throats regulated their oxygen, matching their lung capacities perfectly. The Shaoyin gate over their hearts maintained a steady, simmering heat that kept the winter chill at bay. But it was the Jueyin pericardium gate that had transformed them.

Through it, they were no longer two isolated cultivators. They were a closed, oscillating loop of pure kinetic possibility.

Liang didn’t need to look over his shoulder to know where Wei was. He could feel the heretic’s precise spatial awareness bleeding into his own consciousness—not as thoughts, but as an acute, prickling instinct in his nerve endings. He could sense the layout of the forest through Wei’s talismanic sensitivity to ambient spiritual pressure. In return, Wei anchored himself to the vast, luminous ocean of Liang’s sword-qi, tapping into a wellspring of raw, unyielding power he had never possessed.

We are approaching the outer perimeter of the eastern barracks, the pressure in Liang’s chest signaled, translating Wei’s tactical assessment into a surge of anticipatory heat.

Liang raised his hand, two fingers forming a sword seal. He didn’t have his physical blade—it had been shattered in the Ancestral Hall—but with Wei’s chaotic, violet energy braiding seamlessly into his golden Qi, he didn’t need one.

A patrol of four Qingyun disciples materialized from the mist, their white robes blending with the snow, their swords drawn and glowing with search-light arrays.

Before the disciples could even draw breath to shout an alarm, the Meridian-echo flared.

Liang didn’t think; he simply allowed Wei to guide the flow. A sharp, commanding spike of heat shot from the Jueyin gate, down Liang’s right arm. Liang lashed out. Instead of a standard, rigid arc of righteous sword-qi, the energy that left his fingertips was a volatile whip of golden light laced with crackling, violet runes.

The strike bypassed the disciples’ defensive wards entirely, shattering their swords and knocking them unconscious into the snowdrifts with a concussive shockwave.

Liang gasped, not from exertion, but from the sheer, intoxicating rush of the combined strike. The friction of their differing energies grinding together to create that attack sent a wave of high-heat pleasure rolling back up his arm and straight into his chest. It was a jolt of pure, euphoric adrenaline.

A few paces behind him, Wei let out a low, breathy sound that echoed directly in Liang’s throat. The heretic was flushed, his dark eyes wide and bright. He was experiencing the exact same rush, feeling the magnificent, terrifying force of Liang’s pure cultivation channeled through his own heretical blueprints.

They didn’t stop. They moved like a single, devastating shadow up the mountain path.

The eastern barracks loomed ahead—a sprawling complex of stone dormitories where three hundred newly recruited boys slept, entirely unaware that the bed frames beneath them were wired into the sect’s blood-array.

The courtyard was heavily guarded. Two high-ranking sect elders stood at the gates, surrounded by a dozen elite enforcers. Above them, a massive, domed defensive array pulsed with a harsh, blue light, completely sealing the barracks off from the outside world.

"A Tier-Four Celestial Lock," Wei whispered, appearing silently at Liang’s shoulder. The physical proximity caused the ambient heat of their link to spike, a heavy, simmering warmth pressing between their bodies. "It feeds on kinetic impact. If you strike it with pure sword-qi, it will absorb the force and double its thickness."

Liang turned to look at him, their faces inches apart in the shadows of the tree line. The golden light of Liang’s Qi reflected in Wei’s dark eyes, mingling with the violet sparks of talisman-magic.

"Then we don’t strike it with force," Liang said softly, his voice vibrating through their shared Taiyin gate. "We strike it with a paradox. You weave the destruction; I will supply the fuel."

Wei’s lips curved into a sharp, dangerous smile. It was a look of absolute, terrifying trust. "Open the floodgates, Daoist Liang."

They stepped out of the tree line together.

The Qingyun elders spotted them instantly. "Intruders! It’s the traitor Liang and the heretic!"

The enforcers charged, their swords forming a synchronized, deadly net of spiritual blades.

Liang didn’t draw a weapon. He didn’t even raise his hands to defend himself. He simply planted his feet, closed his eyes, and utterly surrendered his internal defenses, pushing the entirety of his massive, pristine golden core through the Jueyin gate and into Wei.

The transfer was so intense, so overwhelmingly vast, that both men arched their backs with a synchronized gasp. The heat that erupted between them was blinding. It was not the burning agony of the poison purge, but a soaring, frictionless ascent into godhood.

Wei, suddenly supercharged with an ocean of pure sword-qi, moved. He didn’t draw a brush. He didn’t need paper. He used his own blood-stained fingers, tracing massive, glowing violet runes directly into the freezing air.

Fueled by Liang’s endless reservoir, Wei’s talismans expanded to a monstrous scale. The air in the courtyard began to warp and scream.

"What is that?!" one of the elders shrieked, desperately trying to pull back as the defensive net of swords was instantly dissolved by a wave of corrosive, violet-gold fire.

Wei thrust his hands forward. A barrage of explosive, paradoxical runes rained down on the enforcers. Because the spells were powered by Liang’s righteous Qi, the sect’s inherent defensive wards recognized the energy as "friendly" and allowed it to pass right through their shields. By the time the magic detonated with the chaotic, destructive force of Wei’s heretical design, it was already too late.

The enforcers were swept off their feet, thrown against the stone walls of the courtyard, their meridians temporarily paralyzed by the conflicting energies.

The two elders, realizing the danger, abandoned the offensive and poured all their strength into the blue dome of the Celestial Lock.

"Now, Liang!" Wei shouted, the command echoing in Liang’s very bones.

Liang’s eyes snapped open, glowing with a terrifying, dual-colored light. He stepped perfectly into the rhythm of Wei’s spellcasting. As Wei drew a final, massive suppression rune in the air, Liang stepped through the glowing lines of the spell, allowing the rune to coat his physical body.

    He became the talisman.

Liang launched himself into the air, driving his open palm directly against the apex of the blue dome.

The Celestial Lock tried to absorb the kinetic impact, as it was designed to do. But what it pulled in was a closed, infinite loop of conflicting Qi. The sheer, paradoxical density of Liang and Wei’s synchronized resonance poured into the array’s crystalline structure.

For a second, there was absolute silence.

Then, the Jueyin gate between them spiked with a catastrophic pressure. Through the link, Liang felt Wei bear down, forcing the loop to spin faster, hotter, tighter. The heat inside their merged meridians reached an apex of unbearable, blinding pleasure—a spiritual climax of absolute destructive harmony.

    They released the pressure together.

The Tier-Four Celestial Lock shattered like a cheap glass ornament.

The shockwave leveled the courtyard gates and threw the two elders backward, rendering them unconscious before they even hit the ground. The massive, glowing shards of the array dissolved into harmless blue mist as they rained down on the snow.

Liang landed gracefully on his feet in the center of the ruined courtyard. He was breathing heavily, his chest heaving in perfect, mirrored time with Wei, who stood twenty paces behind him.

The silence that followed was profound. They had just dismantled a fortress defense and defeated elite guards without sustaining a single scratch.

Liang turned to look at Wei. The heretic’s robes were billowing in the residual spiritual wind, his face flushed, his chest rising and falling. Across the distance, Liang could feel the aftershocks of their combined power rippling through their shared gates—a series of deep, resonant shivers that made his knees weak. It was an intimacy deeper than skin, a profound understanding of each other’s absolute limits and the ecstatic realization that, together, they had none.

We did it, the phantom pressure in Liang’s chest whispered, a warm, triumphant flare of Wei’s relief.

Liang nodded, a fierce, protective warmth swelling in his own heart. He turned his attention to the main dormitory building. The heavy iron doors had been blown off their hinges by the shockwave.

"The entrance to the subterranean node should be beneath the central meditation hall," Liang said, moving forward.
